So with the US team winning back the Ryder Cup for the first time since 1999 last week in Kentucky which has left a bitter taste in many European golfers and critics mouths largely due to captain Nick Faldo’s choice of players for the cup and his big cock up regarding the team sheet which was leaked to the press after dodgy Nick Faldo was caught by a photographer with his team order in his hand in a restaurant days before the cup began.
First Faldo picked a team that was without many fans favourites in Darren Clarke who has a tremendous record at his previous Ryder cup appearances and Colin Montgomery who has found this season tough but again always plays well at the Ryder cup’s and these two also would have bought the team much experience when the going started to get tough during the matches. All the past captains Sam Torrance,Ian Woosnam and Bernhard Langer especially made sure they had a couple of players that carried the rest of the team in terms of keeping their feet on the ground and keeping their games tip top shape throughout the three days of play like all past cup battles, but this year it was evident that this skill was missing from the team with many of the players just turning around to try and get helpful tips from the captain Nick who obviously came up very short in what he said to them because they just did not ever turn it on and gave the US team an easy three days in my opinion.
But with the cup due to come back to the UK in 2010 with Jose Maria Olazabal touted as being the next captain I expect the Europeans to once again take the crown which they should never have lost!
